John has been training in various martial arts for over 15 years including stints training intersate and overseas. John's most significant martial art achievements have come in the realms of Brasilian Jiu Jitsu. Training under the Will/Machado affiliation until the rank of Brown belt (10 1/2 years) and even competed in the World Jiu Jitsu Championships in Long Beach California in June 2009. (Newspaper article). However it was after his dramitic loss at this event he began to re-evaluate his training strengths and weaknesses and made the move to train under Gracie Barra / De Been black belt Daniel Cherubin. Daniel is one of the Countries most dominating competitors and coaches. He operates out of his South Geelong School. Recognising that a lack of guard ability had really let him down at the world championships and that it wasnt at the level it should be, John made the move to drop one rank to purple belt to allow himself the time to redevelope his Jiu Jitsu under the watchful eyes of his new coach and to rediscover the joy the sport held for him.

John's standup experience is as vast as it is varried. Originally starting out in traditional karate and moving through boxing, Judo and Freestyle Wrestling until finding SHOOTFIGHTING. After training in Shootfighting (a blended mix of silat, kickboxing and self defence - founded by John B Will) for 6 years John graded for his Black Belt in 2006. In 2008 he again graded, this time for his second degree black belt. It was here that John really began to develope a passion for training that incorporated an element of coping with the adrenalin stress we all experience in the real confrontation, both verbal and physical.

Bill Kipp of Colorado USA is a world reknowned expert in the field of adrenaline stress training (FAST DEFENSE) and John had been lucky enough to do some training when Bill visited from America in 2007. Completely blown away by what he experienced John took the opportunity to Stay with Bill & his wife Debra whilst in the USA in 2009 and assisted in running the poioneer "ACCESS COURAGE TRAINING PROGRAM" in the Rocky Mountains. At the conclusion of which John had the surprising pleasure of being formally recognised as an instructor in several of the combative elements (see below for full details), making him the highest qualified FAST DEFENCE instructor in Australia. Spurred by what he has seen and experienced John decided the time was right and founded "LEVERAGE UNLIMITED" with the ultimate goal of empowering people to harness their fear and PREVAIL!
